- Set a time to meet with your boss. Do not choose a time when you know you or your boss will be rushed.
- Be prepared to discuss your achievements and future goals along with any other reasons you are requesting a raise.
- Have a specific amount or percentage in mind.
- Be polite, professional and never bring up personal reasons for a raise.
- If your boss can't give you an answer right away (which is common) ask when you might have an answer.
- If your raise is turned down, ask for feedback regarding your performance so that a raise can be considered in the future.
- If you don't have an annual review, ask if a performance review could be done in the 6 - 12 months in order to give you time to work on the qualities necessary for a possible raise.
