What's for Dinner?

Delicious sliders perfect for a warm Sunday afternoon while watching the game, your favorite show or just enjoying the outdoors!  Through these babies on your grill (inside or out) and in about 10 minutes they'll be ready to eat!  But, first you need a little prep.  Don't worry, it's not much!

One of the best things about these burgers is the Rhodes® Dinner Rolls we use as the slider buns.  Don't waste your money on any other slider bun, there is no comparison!  It requires a little preparation, but well worth it.  Ok.  Ready?

Blue Cheese Stuffed Sliders

Servings 2 (3 sliders each)

Ingredients:

1 lb. of grass fed ground beef (it doesn't need to be super lean, but the higher quality beef makes a big difference and doesn't cost too much more for a single pound)

1/16 cup (half of an 1/8 measuring cup) of barbeque sauce or ketchup

1 tsp of pepper

1tsp salt

1 tsp of onion powder

1/2 tsp of garlic powder

1 cup blue cheese crumbles

1 cup of Baby Spinach Leaves

1/4 cup flour

Nonstick Cooking Spray (available for use)

6 Rhodes® Thaw, Rise & Bake Yeast Dinner Rolls - These are usually sold in a package of 36 rolls for about $4 (12 and 72 roll packages are available in select stores)

Directions:

Day before

Thaw hamburger meat one day before, if frozen.

Buns (AKA Rolls)

Prepare them one day before (they are the best consistency when you prepare them the day before, but you can also thaw, rise & bake the same day - just set them out 4 hours or more before grilling burgers).

Line cookie sheet with parchment paper. Place rolls on cookie sheet, spray tops lightly with nonstick cooking spray then lightly dust each roll with flour.   Set frozen rolls on top of oven (warm preferably, but not required) or preheat your oven for 5 minutes, turn it off, wait 5 minutes and put rolls on lined cookie sheet in oven for 3-4 hours.  Do not put them directly in an oven that is on or immediately turned-off.   If the rolls are not thawed in the oven, place a loose piece of parchment paper, wax paper over them (DO NOT COOK with this paper on top).

When risen, follow cooking instructions on the Rhodes® Dinner Rolls bag.

Sounds like a lot, but it really just takes less than 5 minutes to set these out to thaw and a little time to cook.

Day of grilling

Sliders

Set aside 1/4 cup of blue cheese for garnish.  Use the rest to stuff the sliders.

Prepare your grill to include spraying it with nonstick cooking spray, if needed.  You can use an outdoor, indoor or appliance grill like a George Foreman Grill® (perfect for anytime of year or weather).

Place hamburger and all ingredients (listed above in blue) in a large mixing bowl.  Mush together with your hands until evenly coated.  Shape meat into 6 even sized meatballs.  Mash each ball between your palms.  Each slider should be about the size of an average palm.  Use your knuckle to dent a hole in the center of each burger.  Fill with a desired amount of blue cheese.  Then take the edges of the burger and lift them up and over the indentation with cheese.  Roll slightly into a ball, then flatten again between your hands to the size of an average palm.  This takes about 5-10 minutes for all 6 burgers, start to finish.

Grill each slider on medium heat for about 3-4 minutes per side or until done (4-5 minutes total on a George Foreman Grill® - you don't need to flip your sliders on these grills).

While sliders are on the grill, slice each cooled roll in the middle, leaving the top and bottom hinged together.  Place each slider on fresh baked bun garnish top with baby spinach (or any garnish you would like) and remaining blue cheese crumbles.

Serve with DMK's 5 and 5 salad as shown in the picture and enjoy!
