Featuring a new cocktail, its recipe and a brief history of the popular drink!

March 19, 2020 featured cocktail...

Directions:

Pour ice and water in a tall rocks serving glass.  Pour out and add ice, grenadine, tequila and orange juice.   Add garnish of an orange and cherry atop the drink (make sure to slide the orange completely around the rim of the glass first).  *Optional: Can top with a splash of Cherry 7UP or 7Up.

Non-Alcoholic

Keep the above recipe but substitute Ginger Ale with a drop of non-alcohol vanilla extract for tequila.

History

The original drink recipe included creme de cassis, tequila, lime juice and soda water.  It was created by Gene Sulit and served at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel in the 1930's and 40's.  The most common recipe served today was created in California in the 1970's by Bobby Lozoff and Billy Rice.  The drink really gained popularity when they served the drink to Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones and his entourage who later referred to their tour in the early 70's as their "cocaine and tequila sunrise tour".

The drink also increased in popularity when, in 1973 the Eagles created a popular song named Tequila Sunrise on their Desperado album.

Next featured cocktail is the Salty Dog!

Last featured cocktail was the Screwdriver!

As always drink responsibly or try the non-alcoholic versions!
