Featuring a new cocktail, its recipe and a brief history of the popular drink!

March 26, 2020 featured cocktail...

Directions:

Pour ice and water in a tall rocks serving glass.  Pour coarse salt in saucer, pour out ice water.  Use lime wedge to lace the top of the glass, then dip the top into coarse salt.  Add ice, vodka, grapefruit juice.  Add lime wedge garnish on salted rim.

Non-Alcoholic

Keep the above recipe but substitute Ginger Ale for vodka.

History

The Salty Dog is a variation of the Greyhound (gin and grapefruit juice).  It was created in the 1950's came from a bartender by the name of George Jessel.  The variation included salt on the rim to balance the bitter taste of the drink and eventually vodka.

The Greyhound was thought to have been invented by an author/bartender, Harry Craddock.  Since the recipes for the drinks are very similar, both Jessel and Craddock gained notoriety for the creation of the Salty Dog.

The Salty Dog became more popular than the Greyhound as vodka became more desired than gin in the 50's and the salt rim looked and tasted better than the original Greyhound version.

Last featured cocktail was the Tequila Sunrise!

Next featured cocktail is the Margarita!

As always drink responsibly or try the non-alcoholic versions!
