History

Cachaca (a main ingredient similar to rum) has been available in Brazil since the 1500's.  But the most famous cocktail of Brazil, the caipirinha's origin is uncertain.

There are a couple accounts of its beginning though that lead us to Portugal.

One is that the cocktail originated in 1918 in Alentejuo, a region of Portugal, but included honey, garlic and possibly lemon.  It's thought to have been utilized as a way to stave off the Spanish Flu and possibly end the epidemic.  Such variations of the cocktail are known to help with symptoms of the common cold.

The other story is that the cocktail is a version of the Poncha, a similar cocktail from Madeira, Portugal.

Regardless of the history, this drink is perfect for any season and provides the sweet and sour that so many of us crave in a mixed drink. Enjoy!

Last featured cocktail was the Dirty Martini

As always drink responsibly or try the non-alcoholic versions!

The best times in life aren't spent worrying over the past. They are spent living in the moment with great friends and family. So, get out there and enjoy the season!  Just don't overdo it.  Make or order this featured cocktail with or without alcohol as a perfect accent to a holiday event or a night out on the town!
